Named after a 19th century businessman and philanthropist, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden consists of over 40 acres of carefully maintained and beautifully arranged horticultural areas. The Central Gardens are expansive displays of classical gardening techniques and arrangements, while other areas include a Conifer Garden, filled with varieties of dwarf conifer, a Children's Garden, offering hands-on activities, and the Island Garden, featuring native plants set amidst stretches of water. Located just a few miles north of downtown, the gardens are beside the Belmont Golf Course and the Jefferson Lakeside Country Club
